How To Reduce Laptop Fan Noise

3 simple fixes

It’s summertime. The heat is on. And so are the fans. So it’s no surprise that for many of us, laptop fan noise is a major annoyance with our computers during these hot summer days.

Luckily, there are some simple fixes you can try to reduce the noise your computer makes when it starts up and/or gets busy doing something like playing a video game or watching a movie online.

Here are three tips:

Remove the Dust

It’s tempting to just hope the laptop fan noise will go away on its own or that it won’t bother you too much. But if your computer is already noisy, then this kind of thinking might be part of the problem!

The first thing to do when dealing with a loud laptop fan? Remove any dust buildup in and around your machine.

This includes inside vents (like those found near where you plug-in power), all across the bottom surface of the laptop, as well as under keyboard keys that are used often.

Dust can lead not only to an annoying sound coming from your machine but also make it more difficult for airflow through cooling vents which could lead to overheating problems with your device during use — not something we want!

So to keep your laptop cool and quiet, try taking it apart from every once in a while and give the fan blades a good dusting.

You may need to take off the rubber feet on the bottom of your laptop so you can get underneath where all that dust has been building up — this will help give airflow more room (and make less noise).

And don’t forget about removing any hair or lint from under keyboard keys either.

Tip: You might be able to use compressed air for this step but only if you remove important parts like the battery before doing anything else.

Close Unnecessary Processes

Having too many programs open or running in the background can cause unnecessary laptop fan usage.

You’ll want to close those you don’t need, and even restart your computer if that doesn’t help.

The more processes are running, the hotter it will get inside of your laptop; thus causing a noisy situation!

Closing the unnecessary processes that are running in the background, by pressing Ctrl-Alt-Delete and finding those programs you don’t need or want to run, then closing them.

This will hopefully cut down on laptop fan noise!

Elevate Your Laptop

The laptop is a great place to put your feet up and enjoy some Netflix, but the heat it produces while in use can cause that annoying buzzing sound.

Elevating your laptop on an elevated surface like a box or pillow will prevent this from happening by allowing space for hot air to ventilate out of the device!

This also has benefits for extending the life of your battery because you’ll be using less power with each charge.

You can also buy tools that fit on your laptop and allow you to use it at a different height. Lap Desk is an example of one such brand, with the height adjustable from 15 inches to 27 inches high.

Final words

Do you hear a loud, buzzing noise coming from your laptop? Then the problem might be that pesky laptop fan.

It may seem like there isn’t anything you can do about it and that’s actually not true!

The solution to getting rid of this annoying sound is closing unnecessary processes in which will help reduce the heat inside your device; thus reducing noisy situations.

You should also try elevating or keeping off surfaces like desks where hot air won’t have as much space for ventilating — these steps are especially important if you use laptops solely to play games since their processors need extra cooling time, due to high usage rates such as gaming sessions on long hours when running with higher intensity levels than usual would produce- putting strain on the laptop.

The better you take care of your laptop, the less likely it is to break down at an inopportune time!
